This handmade, handheld mirror had been passed down through the family but unfortunately broke at the handle. The finish had been fading as well and there were several places that showed previous repairs. After sanding the old finish away and cleaning up the area of the break, I was able to fit the pieces back together and then sand it smooth. Next, I cleaned up the previous repairs and blended it into the wood. I then identified the original finish as Shellac, and after three coats had it looking like the day it was first made.
